Product name:Mono-terminated Mono-hydroxyethoxypropyl Silicone Fluid

Product code:NV-SICB2051-*

Alias:Mono-Carbinol Functional Silicone Fluid

Chemical Information

Main components: Mono-terminated Mono-hydroxyethoxypropyl Polydimethylsiloxane

Cas No.: 207308-30-3

Chemical Character: Mono-functional Silicone Macromonomer (Diol-terminated)

Molecular Structure: (CH3)3SiO - [Si(CH3)2O]n - Si(CH3)2-CH2CH2CH2OCH2CH2OH

Product Description

The NV-SiCB2051 series consists of 100% active, linear, mono-functional silicone fluids containing a single reactive primary carbinol hydroxyl group at only one end of the polydimethylsiloxane chain. The remaining terminus is completely blocked with a non-reactive trimethylsiloxy group.

As an asymmetric reactive macromonomer, NV-SiCB2051 functions primarily as a highly efficient silicone chain terminator or grafting modifier during the synthesis of polyurethanes, acrylics, and alkyd resins. It is specifically engineered to provide permanent surface modification, boasting exceptional optical transparency (zero haze), ultra-low coefficient of friction (COF), and excellent anti-fouling attributes without disrupting the core polymer network.

Chemical Character & Reactivity

Hydrolytically Stable Linkage: The reactive primary alcohol moiety is bonded via a robust silicon-carbon (Si-C) linkage. This guarantees that the integrated silicone modifier resists chemical degradation, hydrolysis, or heat-induced breakdown.

Precise Terminal Reactivity: The solitary -CH2OH  primary hydroxyl group undergoes efficient, predictable addition reactions with isocyanates -NCO), carboxylic acids (-COOH), or acid anhydrides, making it an ideal tool for precise molecular weight trimming and end-capping.

Key Benefits & Features

Flawless Optical Clarity: Ideal for optical-grade transparent polyurethanes (PU/PUD), aliphatic coatings, and protective films. The single-ended attachment significantly diminishes phase separation, ensuring maximum light transmittance and zero haze.

Surface-Targeted Orientation: During film formation, the non-reactive silicone "tails" spontaneously migrate and orient towards the air-coating interface. This creates a highly concentrated surface shield using minimal overall dosage.

Permanent Slip & Non-Migrating Nature: Covalently locks into the polymer matrix, providing resilient, permanent surface slip, anti-scratch, and anti-blocking features that survive heavy solvent wiping and weathering.

Excellent Easy-Clean (Anti-Smudge) Effect: Noticeably increases water and oil contact angles, enabling excellent resistance to fingerprints, markers, and environmental contamination.

Applications

Optical & Protective Films (PPF / Clear Bra): Extensively used to modify transparent thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) and topcoats to elevate scratch self-healing gloss, surface lubrication, and dirt resistance.

Polyurethane & Resin End-Capping: Acts as a specialized mono-functional terminator in PU elastomers, waterborne PUDs, and acrylic polyols to introduce pendant silicone properties without causing unwanted gelation or branching.

High-End Inks & Industrial Overprint Varnishes: Enhances leveling, minimizes cratering, and drops the coefficient of friction (COF) for premium packaging applications.

Electronic Packaging & Optical Coatings: Modifies matrix surfaces to secure hydrophobic barrier properties while maintaining absolute clarity.

Application Guide

Grade Selection Guidelines:

NV-SiCB2051-30 (MW ~1000): Provides a higher hydroxyl concentration per unit weight and better matrix compatibility. Best for high-solid or solvent-free systems where resin clarity and hardness preservation are critical.

NV-SiCB2051-40 (MW ~2100): Features a longer dangling siloxane chain, maximizing surface slip, hydrophobic release efficiency, and tactile feel.

Stoichiometry Calculation: When substituting into formulations, calculate chemical equivalents based on 1 mol of -OH per 1 mol of NV-SiCB2051 fluid using the designated Hydroxyl Value.

Blending: Soluble in common coating solvents such as butyl acetate, MEK, xylene, and various glycol ethers.

Handling & Precautions

Work in well-ventilated operational areas. Do not breathe in mist, spray, or vapor.

Wear routine protective gear including nitrile rubber gloves and chemical safety goggles. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water if direct contact occurs.

Storage & Packaging

Storage Condition: Keep container tightly closed. Store in a cool 5-30℃, dry, well-shaded area away from incompatible strong oxidizers.

Moisture Protection: The single terminal primary hydroxyl group is hygroscopic. Seal tightly immediately after opening. Nitrogen gas padding/purging is highly recommended to preserve shelf stability.

Shelf Life: 12 months from manufacture date when kept unopened in original packaging.
